When was the last time you have learned something new? We pretty much learn all the time…it starts the day we are born, throughout school, maybe university, and then we enter the life of work, tasks, and responsibilities. Most of our daily learning thought is based on circumstances, and necessities, adapting new skills in your job, learning how to live with a partner, raising kids, etc.
But what happened to learning out of curiosity?? Are we so overwhelmed with our busy lives, that there is no time for something new? Are we too scared to fail? Did we get too comfortable with the routines of the day-to-day?
Well, learning something new will definitely take time and energy, but there are also a lot of benefits that come along with it.
This past year has been a year of learning for me. Since normal life, like we used to know it, kind of shut down on a global scale, and we had to reinvent the way we spend our time, I thought it’s time to switch things up a little and learn something new. I have started a lot of new things, including this blog, but one of the most exciting ones is probably the roller-skating ( I think it’s because I’m doing it with my lovely sister).
Benefits of learning something new
+ It’s good for your brain
Learning something new can help improve your brain function. Mental efforts help your brain build new cells and strengthen connections between the cells. By learning something new you are improving cognitive functions such as concentration, problem-solving, attention to detail, memory and is a good way to lower the chance of developing dementia.
+ Increases your quality of life
Learning something new gives you some kinds of escape from daily responsibilities and to do’s. When you’re learning something new your interest levels are high which keeps you entertained and saves you from boredom. Doing the same things every day, over and over, leads to a monotonous life, which is not really exciting. Bringing in some new things will break this cycle and spice things up.
+ Reduces stress
Breaking the cycle of a monotonous life also helps reduce stress. By learning something new, we feed our brain with positivity and excitement, which gives it a break from worries and stressful things.
+ Boosts your confidence
One of the reasons we do not learn something new is sometimes the risk, or fear of failure. You should never be scared of failure because even failure means growth, and when you succeed in learning something you will feel a lot better. You will feel more confident in yourself and your ability to tackle all sorts of new tasks.
+ Have fun
Last but not least, learning something new is a lot of fun. And I’m not just talking about the end result when you’re good at whatever you’re learning. I’m talking about the hours of practice that take you to this point. Success is not defined by the outcome, but by the journey that takes you there.
Give it a try & I’d love to hear from ya’ll
