5 Tips for perfect skin in the wintertime

I am a huge fan of every season throughout the year. There’s beauty in the reviving nature during spring, the heat of the summer, a colorful fall, and the frosty, snowy wintertime. But let’s be honest, the wintertime can be quite challenging. The air is cold and dry, our immune systems are weakened, and there are lots of germs and bacteria flying around crowded areas. One part of our bodies is always exposed to those conditions, the skin of our face. Healthy skin is not only important for outer appearance, but it is essential for many of our body’s tasks, like protecting us from the cell-damaging UV-rays. Being in my 30’s now, and after two pregnancies, I have really started paying more attention to my skin and implemented some basic routines for perfect skin in the wintertime. I have summarized those and added some natural products I love, to give my skin a boost and stay healthy.

+ Water, water, water

The air is dry and harsh on our skin. It doesn’t matter if you’re outside in the cold, or inside with the heater on. In both scenarios, our skin is exposed to extremely dry air and gets damaged. To counteract that I usually start with healing from within and really monitor my water intake. Drinking sufficient water is crucial, always considering your size and activities during the day.

+ Moisturize

During the wintertime, I tend to use a richer cream, that protects my skin and its natural oils. Even though I love hot showers, I try to avoid them, since they strip your skin from its natural oils and again causes it to get dry faster. I would take short showers and make sure to apply my moisturizers right afterward to seal the water inside. Here are some of the products I love:

+ Cleanse and tone your skin

Cleansing is important but in moderation. Sometimes pure water is enough. I would always avoid any beauty products containing fragrances. A good natural remedy I love, even though it smells horrible, is apple cider vinegar. It can be applied once a day with a cotton pad. It balances out your skin’s ph, exfoliates, and stimulates circulation.

+ Apply sunscreen

No matter if it’s grey and rainy, or the sun is beaming – this is one of my daily rituals to protect my skin from aging and the dangerous ultraviolet lights. I use sunscreen all the time, in combination with my moisturizer and/or make-up as a base.
Your skin will love it.

+ Eat right

Dry skin can also be cured with an internal boost. Like I said before, it is important to drink enough water. Eating omega-3- and -6 rich foods, such as fish may also help during the cold months. I am not reluctant to take some supplements, like Vitamin D. During the summertime our bodies’ natural Vitamin D production increases due to exposure to the sun. Since the wintertime is mostly grey, it is not a bad idea to give your body some essential vitamins in form of supplements.
