“In our lives, change is unavoidable, loss is unavoidable. In the adaptability and ease with which we experience change lies our happiness and freedom.” Buddha
Life is unpredictable, we never know what happens in the very next moment, and nothing is ever guaranteed. This is a very uncomfortable fact for many people. The reason behind this is that our unconscious brain is in a constant search for certainty. So everything we do is based on our belief system, education, previous experiences, and natural impulses. This is not necessarily bad, we were born with instincts and impulses for a reason. Instincts warn us and protect us from harm. But, if those instincts run in an unconscious brain, they become a problem in many cases, and put us into survival mode, neglecting mental and physical health. For people who feel extremely anxious when it comes to change and future outcomes, it is important to maybe sometimes take a step back from their stressful day-to-day lives, and do a quick dive into mindfulness techniques. Mindfulness simply means being fully present and experiencing the moment you’re living in right now. Sounds easier than it actually is, because we all have that inner voice talking to us and distracting us from living in the NOW. You have to keep in mind, that your voice and your thoughts are all distractions. They are taking away the uniqueness of that moment you are currently in. That moment will pass in a millisecond and sadly will never come back. The more you live in the now, the easier it will be to accept and embrace the unavoidable CHANGE that is happening anyways. Whether you like it or not, it will happen, again, and again, and again. So let’s just accept it and see the bright side of it.
What is CHANGE? Change is the transformation, alteration, and metamorphosis from one state into another, and it happens everywhere. The small caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly. Two sections of the ground are forced together, forming an enormous, and breathtaking mountain. Trees shed their leaves in fall, to shine even brighter in spring. Just like the big bang was the beginning of the universe, we can view change as a new small beginning each time it happens. Yes, change can be uncomfortable, but it ultimately means growth.
Here’s a list of benefits you can expect, when accepting change as the only constant in your life.
+ Change helps get out of an unfulfilling situation
Change always means something new is about to happen. It means expansion. It’s an invitation to have new experiences and explore new opportunities. It doesn’t matter what situation you are in right now, just consider the benefits you can gain from accepting change. It can be a new responsibility at your job, becoming a parent, or moving to a new country. Of course, some things sound risky, but if there’s the slightest chance that this change will help your personal development, you should embrace it.
+ Increases flexibility and personal growth
Since we all know now that change is not really something we can avoid, the one and only reasonable choice to make are to really accept it. Even if you’re trying to not change anything, it is happening. Like the cells in your body are changing every second, so is everything else surrounding you. If you are okay with change, sudden new situations will not knock you out of balance and you’ll be flexible enough to adapt to anything life throws at you.
+ Keeps life exciting and encourages thinking outside the box
Change keeps life exciting. Living in the unknown is a good way to get closer to the present moment. Whenever we are too focussed on how things are supposed to be, our mind is so clouded with thoughts and expectations, which actually steal the beauty of the present moment. Negative thinking and unfulfilled expectations not only cloud your mind but also consume a lot of energy, you could be used to create the life you want and deserve. With an open mind, that is ready for anything, without being stuck on the expectation of a specific outcome, you will experience how favorable things will slowly come your way. By living in the now, you will be able to see chances and opportunities in situations you would not have seen before. When you’re being receptive to change, you automatically turn into the creator of your own life and do not let external circumstances dictate how you feel, and ultimately slow you down.
